A wired magnetic contact switch, also known as a door or window sensor, is a security device that uses a magnetic field to detect when a door or window is opened or closed. It consists of two main parts: a wired component with a reed switch and a magnet. When the door or window is closed, the magnet is close to the reed switch, completing a circuit. When the door or window is opened, the magnet moves away, breaking the circuit and triggering an alarm or other action.
How it works:
- Reed Switch: The wired component contains a reed switch, which is a small, sealed glass capsule with two magnetic metal reeds inside.
- Magnet: The magnet is placed on the moving part of the door or window.
- Closed Circuit: When the magnet is close to the reed switch (door/window closed), the magnetic field pulls the reeds together, creating a closed circuit.
- Open Circuit: When the door/window is opened, the magnet moves away, the magnetic field weakens, and the reeds separate, opening the circuit.
- Alarm Trigger: The open circuit signals the alarm system, triggering an alert.
Types of Magnetic Contact Switches:
