Car back-up camera
4” Mirror LCD monitor
A car backup camera, also known as a reversing or rear-view camera, is a safety feature installed on vehicles to assist drivers when backing up.
It provides a live video feed of the area behind the vehicle, displayed on a screen, typically in the dashboard or rearview mirror, to help drivers avoid collisions with obstacles or pedestrians.
Legality in Canada (including British Columbia):
In Canada, back-up cameras became mandatory for all new vehicles weighing 10,000 pounds (approximately 4,536 kg) or less manufactured on or after May 1, 2018. This regulation, under Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 111 (Rear Visibility Systems), was implemented to enhance road safety and reduce the risk of back-over accidents.
This means that any new car, SUV, light pickup truck, or minivan sold in British Columbia (and across Canada) since that date will have a factory-installed backup camera.
Aftermarket Installation in Surrey, BC:
For older vehicles that don’t have a factory-installed back-up camera, aftermarket solutions are readily available. Many car audio and electronics shops in Surrey and the broader Metro Vancouver area specialize in installing these systems. These installations can range from simple license plate frame cameras with wireless displays to fully integrated systems that display on an aftermarket stereo head unit.
While the primary function of a backup camera is not to record footage like a dash cam, its contribution to driver safety and convenience is immense.
