Smartphone Gate Controller

• "Dry Contact" or "Push Button" Terminals: Most gate opener control boards have terminals designed for a wired wall control panel or push button. These are often labeled as "COM" (Common), "PUSH," "START," "CYCLE," or similar.
• Relay Connection: The Wi-Fi gate controller module typically contains a relay. When you send a command from your smartphone app, the module activates this relay. The relay then momentarily closes a circuit between the designated terminals on your gate opener's control board. This "short circuit" or "dry contact" action is interpreted by the gate opener as a signal to open or close, just as if you had pressed a physical button.
• Power Supply: The Wi-Fi module itself needs power. It can often be powered directly from the gate opener's control board (if it provides a suitable low-voltage output, e.g., 7-32V), or it might require a separate power adapter (like a 5V USB power supply).

• Some DIY solutions involve wiring the Wi-Fi module to the internal contacts of an existing gate remote control.
• The module then "presses" the button on the remote control electronically, sending the same signal the remote would normally send to the gate opener. This is less common for commercial products and more of a hobbyist project.

• Wi-Fi Connection: The module connects to your home's Wi-Fi network (2.4 GHz). This allows your smartphone (via the internet) to communicate with the module.
• Control Board (within the module): This is the "brain" of the module, receiving commands from your smartphone and translating them into signals for the gate opener.
• Relay: The electromechanical switch that closes the circuit on the gate opener's control board.
• Input Terminals (optional): Some modules may have inputs for sensors (e.g., magnetic sensors) that can tell you the gate's open/closed status, which is then communicated back to your app.

1. Locate the Gate Opener Control Board: This is usually found within the gate opener's housing.
2. Identify the Control Terminals: Refer to your gate opener's manual to find the terminals for a push button or wall control.
3. Wire the Module: Connect the output wires from the Wi-Fi module's relay to the appropriate control terminals on the gate opener's board.
4. Power the Module: Connect the module to a suitable power source.
5. Connect to Wi-Fi and App: Follow the manufacturer's instructions to connect the module to your Wi-Fi network and pair it with the smartphone app.
6. Test: Test the functionality from your smartphone.

• Compatibility: Always check the compatibility of the Wi-Fi module with your specific gate opener brand and model. Some modules are universal, while others are designed for certain manufacturers.
• Wiring Diagrams: Always consult the wiring diagrams provided by both your gate opener manufacturer and the Wi-Fi module manufacturer.
• Safety: If you're not comfortable with electrical wiring, it's best to consult a professional electrician or gate technician.
• Wi-Fi Signal Strength: Ensure a strong 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signal at the location of the gate opener for reliable operation. You may need a Wi-Fi extender if the gate is far from your router.
